Keio Participates in the 10th Japan-Korea Millennium Forum
The 10th Japan-Korea Millennium Forum was held on November 9 – 10, 2011 at Yonsei University in Seoul. The four participating universities, Keio, Korea, Waseda, and Yonsei (listed in alphabetical order) meet every year to discuss issues of mutual interest and strengthen collaborative activities. President Seike, Vice-President Agawa, Professor Soeya (Director, Keio Institute of East Asian Studies), Professor Hosoya (Faculty of Law) and Associate Professor Furutani (Faculty of Policy Management) represented Keio at the forum.
The theme of the forum was “Natural Disasters and the Roles of Universities”. President Seike gave a presentation on “Reconstruction and Beyond - The Great East Japan Earthquake and its Implications” in the session “University’s Role in Enhancing the Safety of Asia”. Professor Soeya moderated the session “Natural Disasters, Climate Change and Energy” and Professor Hosoya participated in the same session as a commentator. In addition, Associate Professor Furutani gave a presentation on “NGO’s Role and Activities in Natural Disasters” in the session “Natural Disasters and Crisis Management”.
